![]() In return, Modbury students travel to Japan each year in the September school holidays. They learn about our school life, customs and our way of life. The exchange students take part in some lessons and cultural experiences offered at the school, as well as participate in various excursions around Adelaide. The Japanese students are hosted by Modbury students for 6 days in August. The Japanese Exchange program with Asakuchi city, JapanĮ: part of our Japanese exchange program, Modbury High School welcomes 15 students and two teachers from the city of Asakuchi in Japan each year. Be aware of hypothermia, symptoms and remedy.Be aware of the correct foods to eat for this activity.Learn to ride pomas, T- bars and chair lifts.Demonstrate an understanding of the functioning of their equipment and the appropriate way to dress in an alpine environment.To demonstrate an ability to be able to live with each other, to understand individual needs and co-operate in small and large group situations and activities.Students will have the ability to work in small groups by skiing/snowboarding together (buddy system) and assisting each other with skill development and evaluation of each others performance.Students will individually progress at their own rate in the learning of this new skill.To explore management of the environment to ensure minimal recreational impact.To understand the dietary requirements to meet the nutritional demands of skiing/snowboarding in an alpine environment.To understand the challenges and risks involved in an unfamiliar environment and how to minimise such risks.To be responsible for themselves and each other.To explore the dynamics of relationships and of independence.To understand the specific needs for skiing/snowboarding by working/operating in small groups.To learn new physical skills: to practice them and to work both individually and in small groups on improving their performance.To participate in a creative, challenging and enjoyable activity.Students learn about and develop the knowledge and skills needed to function effectively in group situations. It also enables the student to focus on their relationship with their peers and teachers. Being in an unfamiliar environment challenges a student’s self-reliance and enables the student to develop his/her own identity. The ski trip will challenge and have a focus on the nature and importance of human functioning. The program of activities incorporated in and around this trip makes it a useful learning tool to be linked directly with the curriculum pattern.This is a great opportunity for the students to take advantage of learning in an environment outside of the school setting and at the same time provide a valuable motivational component in broadening the education of our students. It provides an opportunity for students to develop a range of personal and group skills in an environment which many students would otherwise not experience. The Modbury High School ski trip is planned as an integral part of the curriculum options for senior students.
